About Nerdy Frames

Plain answers to the questions we are asked most. No sales copy, just the facts about who we are and how we work.

What is Nerdy Frames?

Nerdy Frames is an independent online eyewear boutique founded in 2012. Every frame is overseen by Geraldo, the frame-maker behind the brand. The idea is simple: boutique-quality prescription eyeglasses, with lenses included, at the lowest number an independent house can honestly offer.

Where are Nerdy Frames designed and made?

Every frame is designed in New York City. Frames are crafted in China from premium Japanese and Italian acetate, the same material families used by boutique eyewear houses. Prescription lenses are made in our own lens lab, so lens work stays in-house rather than outsourced.

How much do Nerdy Frames glasses cost, and what is included?

Prescription eyeglasses start at $99, with most frames starting at $129. Every price includes single-vision prescription lenses and your choice of anti-glare or blue light filter. There are no lens upcharges hidden at checkout for standard single vision.

What prescriptions can Nerdy Frames fill?

Single vision, progressives, and anti-fatigue (digital) lenses. Unlike most online retailers, we also fill strong and complex prescriptions, with cylinder correction up to +/-9.75. Progressive and specialty lens work is priced during checkout.

Can Nerdy Frames handle high-cylinder (high astigmatism) prescriptions?

Yes, and this is where we differ most from the rest of the online space. For high-cylinder prescriptions, our lab custom makes your lenses from scratch rather than forcing your prescription into a pre-molded, one-size-fits-all lens blank. It is the same approach a boutique optical shop takes in person, done online. If other online retailers have told you your prescription cannot be filled, ours is the lab that can usually fill it.

How can I try frames before buying?

Three ways. A free virtual try-on on every product page lets you see that frame on your face from your phone or laptop. A free PD tool measures your pupillary distance in about a minute. And the Home Try-On Box ships 3 to 5 frames to your door for 7 days with a prepaid return label; the $10 reservation is returned to you as store credit.

What is the shipping, return, and warranty policy?

Shipping is free within the US. Returns are hassle-free within 10 days, with free return shipping. Frames carry a 1-year warranty and lenses a 6-month warranty.

Can I use vision insurance, FSA, or HSA?

FSA and HSA cards are accepted directly. We do not bill insurance, but we provide an itemized receipt for reimbursement through VSP, EyeMed, Davis Vision, and most other providers.

How is Nerdy Frames different from Warby Parker or Zenni?

Nerdy Frames sits above the mass online players on materials and construction, and below boutique houses like Dita or Jacques Marie Mage on price. Premium Japanese and Italian acetate, custom-made lenses from scratch in our own lab even for difficult prescriptions, and a frame-maker's eye on every release, without a storefront markup.

How long does it take to receive glasses?

Most orders are completed within 8 to 10 business days. Custom lens work for complex prescriptions is done from scratch in our lab, so we take the time to get it right rather than rushing a pre-molded lens out the door.

How do I contact Nerdy Frames?

Our customer service team can be reached at [email protected]. Existing customers earn $10 in store credit for each friend who orders through their referral link, and the friend gets $10 too.

Vision Insurance Information

How Insurance Reimbursement Works

Unfortunately, we don't have any direct partnerships with vision insurance providers, but we can assist you in getting a reimbursement for your purchase after you have paid in full at the time of purchase. In order to be reimbursed, you will first need to fill out a form from your insurance provider. After you fill out their reimbursement form, you will need to provide an itemized receipt, which we can provide you with once you have completed your purchase. We've provided some links below of popular vision insurance providers to help you get started.

Please contact your vision insurance for more information on how to file for a reimbursement.

If you have any question or you need an itemized receipt, please email us at [email protected]

FSA & HSA Payments

We accept both FSA and HSA payments, as long as they are in the form of a credit or debit card. After you have had completed a purchase with your FSA/HSA, you can then file for a reimbursement with your vision insurance provider.
